Falls Happen in an Instant—Are You Prepared?

Every 20 minutes, an older adult dies from a fall in the U.S. Many more are injured. But with a few simple steps, you can significantly reduce the risk.

Take the Fall Risk Assessment from the National Council on Aging (NCOA) to understand your or your loved one’s risk level. You’ll receive a personalized report with resources and recommendations.

Steps to Reduce Fall Risk:

  • Review Medications – Some medications can cause dizziness or balance issues. Ask your doctor to review prescriptions for safer alternatives. Three out of four older adults take at least one medication linked to falls.

  • Check Vision – Schedule an eye exam. Updating your glasses can improve depth perception and lower fall risk.

  • Make Your Home Safer – Improve lighting, install railings, and keep frequently used items within easy reach. Use the CDC’s Check for Safety guide to assess risks.

  • Stay Active – Regular exercise strengthens muscles and improves balance. Simple Sit-to-Stand exercises build leg strength, and balance training helps prevent falls. For safety, exercise with a friend or family member.

There is no shortage of aging-related resources but sorting through them takes time. That’s where Silver Path Consulting comes in. We help families navigate aging with clarity, confidence, and peace of mind—so you spend less time searching and more time cherishing the moments that matter.
